This is not the only gun safe on the market today. In fact, there are a ton of gun safes to choose from. So is there anything about the SV500 that makes it superior to the others?

Review Summary

Don’t have time to read the entire review? To sum it up, the SV500 is an ideal safe for single handgun storage. It has a unique design but more than that you can put this anywhere and it will be within reach.

The biometric version (SVB500) records fingerprints quickly and gives you instant access. If you prefer a more traditional safe, the safe has a combination style available.

There is also Vaultek VT20 handgun safe and SentrySafe pistol safe which are both biometric and offers almost similar features. Check those too and you can make your decision afterward.

Detailed Review

Ease of use

-The SV500 comes in two versions, combination and biometric. The biometric version has a fingerprint scanner and an activator. Just press your finger on the scanner and it’s recorded. You can do this up to 20 times. Only those recorded fingerprints will be able to open the safe.

-The combination style comes with a quick access digital keypad. Like other safes, you enter a combination and use that to open the unit. A backup override key is provided along with all the required mounting hardware.

-Both versions are made of 18 gauge steel with interior foam, LED light and anti-prying design. Batteries are required (not included). Both have a 5-year warranty.

-The security level is sufficient for both biometric and combination versions. Just make sure to wipe the scanner once you’re done recording so unauthorized people won’t be able to open it.

-Both styles run smoothly, but the biometric is more convenient. If there’s a break-in or emergency it’s easy to forget a 3 or 4 digit code, but with a biometric gun safe, you just press and the unit opens. It only takes seconds to open so that’s another advantage.

-The LED light turns green when the reader button is pressed and held down providing sufficient light without alerting burglars of your presence.

-With interior dimensions of 2.25 x 5.7 x 8.5 inches, the SV500 has room for most types of handguns. A Glock 21 or 23 fits nicely as will other pistols. With the interior foam, there’s sufficient protection for your pistol too.

-The mounting plate included with the safe goes a long way towards making the SV500 easier to use. In spite of the compact size, the SV500 is one of the most durable gun safes on the market today. It is also one of the most stylish.

-Regarding the name, some may prefer to call this a gun safe rather than a vault since it only holds one gun. Whatever the case may be there is no question the SV500 works great as a single handgun safe.

-The SV500 is secure but it is also easy to use. Since it holds most pistols you don’t have to worry if your handgun is going to fit in or not. The other thing is its durability. The 18 gauge steel used is more than capable of handling a few bumps and hits.

-The foam inside the gun safe is nothing special but it gets the job done and that’s what matters. The combination in the SV500 can be set to a simple 1 digit or you can use a multiple number combo. The fact that you have a choice goes to show that the manufacturer put a lot of thought into the design.

-Except for the digital keypad and fingerprint scanner, both versions share the same features, and that is a good thing. In case you decide to switch from one to the other the learning curve won’t be steep.

-The simple but effective design makes it suitable for first-time gun safe owners. The intuitive design makes it a practical choice for someone who wants a simple but effective gun safe. The SVB500 is not the biggest gun safe out there, but this works to its advantage as you’re able to use it discreetly.
